On Monday, August 21st, North America will experience a solar eclipse. In Los Angeles, the eclipse will reach it’s peak at 10:21 am.
During the event of an eclipse, it becomes obligatory to perform Salatul Ayat.
This prayer consists of two units, and each unit consists of 5 rak’a (bowing). One method to perform this prayer is that in each unit, after reciting Surat al-Fatiha, a short Sura is recited (such as Surat al-Qadr) and after each verse, one rak’a is performed. After the 5 rak’a are performed, and after prostration, this process is repeated again for the second unit.
