Hundreds of worshippers at churches on Easter Sunday have been killed and wounded in a series of blasts that rocked Sri Lanka. In addition Churches, hotels and a housing development were also targeted.
It is a sad commentary of our times that in less than a month, worshippers in a mosque in New Zealand and scores of Shia Hazaras in Pakistan have been victims of terrorist attacks. And today we learn the heinous deed in Sri Lanka on one of the holiest days for Christians.
The Shia Muslim Council of Southern California sends its heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed or maimed in these attacks on the innocent.
SMC joins the world community in condemning this wanton violence that steals fathers, mothers and children from happy families, leaving a lifelong scar on the affected members of society – be it in Christchurch, Quetta or Colombo.
While New Zealand arrested the perpetrator and Sri Lankan authorities have detained suspects, sadly ten days on Pakistani authorities are yet to apprehend anyone for the unabated killings of the Shia Hazara people.
We call upon all authorities to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
May Allah restore peace and justice in this world to allow all those who share this planet to live in safety.
