Eid al-Ghadeer Statement
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh:
The global Muslim community faces a number of pressing challenges. Islamophobia, sectarian strife, injustice, and violence continue to plague many regions of the Muslim world. It is under these challenging times that the Muslim community is desperately in need of uniting and strengthening the bonds of religious and human fellowship.
As Shia Muslims, we are blessed to inherit the rich intellectual and moral heritage of the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hf) and his Pure Household (pbut). Ameerul Mu’mineen, Imam Ali (pbuh), states: “(The pursuit of) Truth is worthwhile, even if it is lengthy, and falsehood is a failure, even if it may have great supporters” (Nahjul Balagha). These words of wisdom by our Imam should serve as a foundation for our focus and determination to pursue the truth, no matter what sort of challenges we may face. Justice and truth will prevail. The Qur’an reminds us, “Say, ‘Truth has come and falsehood has been banished; (falsehood) is doomed to banishment” (17:81).
Eid al-Ghadeer symbolizes the culmination of God’s divine message. On this day, the Holy Prophet (pbuh&hf) appointed Imam Ali (pbuh) as his successor and the maintainer of truth and justice. We are truly blessed to be considered the followers and adherents of this great Imam. However, we must make sure that our commitment to the truth is one that is real and practiced.
It is my honor to congratulate you all on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Ghadeer. On this great occasion, let us join together and thank our Lord for blessing us with the great favor of the Guardianship of Imam Ali (pbuh). Let us also pray that God unites our hearts and minds, and allows us to be agents of positive change in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Wassalaamu alaikum,
Sayed Moustafa al-Qazwini
